General

It would be much appreciated if parents were to 'spot check' their children's books. On average only about 30% of children are completing homework in English and History and even fewer children put in their best effort.
Books need to be up-to-date in order to study properly for a test.
Many grade 6 pupils are on break detention to catch up on work not done / work done very poorly.

Also, check your child's demerits in the homework diary and sign them off even if they may have been cancelled against merits received. This is one way we teachers endeavour to let the parents know there may be a problem or a poor work ethic.
